Instructions:

  • Preheat the Cooking Surface:

    • Heat a griddle or a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. You want it to be hot to achieve the crispy sear on the burgers.

  • Divide and Shape the Beef:

    • Divide the ground beef into portions (about 2 to 4 ounces each) depending on the size of the burgers you want.

    • Roll each portion into a ball but avoid over-packing it.

  • Season the Beef:

    • Generously season each beef ball with salt and pepper.

  • Smash the Burgers:

    • Place a ball of beef onto the hot cooking surface and immediately smash it down using a spatula or burger press. Press firmly to create a thin patty with a larger surface area.

    • Cook for about 1-2 minutes until the edges become crispy.

  • Flip and Add Cheese:

    • Flip the burgers and immediately add a slice of American cheese to each patty.

    • Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted, and the burgers are cooked to your desired level of doneness.

  • Toast the Buns:

    • In the last minute of cooking, place the hamburger buns on the griddle to lightly toast.

  • Assemble the Burgers:

    • Transfer the smash burgers onto the toasted buns.

    • Add your favorite toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise.
